I’ve just taken a phone call at 19:30 on Friday the 2nd November 2007, that will change my life for ever. I may be over exaggerating a little.
I have an appointment to view several plots of land at Birchgrove allotments on Sunday morning, with the intention of coming away the proud owner of a 3 Perch (um, what’s a perch?). For the past few month’s I’ve been enthusiastically reading news groups, magazine’s and books for ideas and advice on what’s in store for me. One blog that I came across yesterday was Weed it and Reap it’s a great read and the thought of having my own chickens is buzzing around my head right now. A few other sites I’ve found useful and informitive are Allotment and Vegetable Gardening and Over the Gate.
The overall theme of what everyone says is digging, digging, digging, which unfortunately I’m rubbish at, but I guess I’ll just have to get better. The Allotment manager also said that all of the plots are currently over run with weeds so it’ll take a fair bit of digging to shift it all, fair do’s. From what I’ve read it’s not like much will be planted this time of the year (other than garlic) so at least I’ll have a couple of months to get everything in place ready for early spring!
I’ll be taking my camera on Sunday so I’ll post a few pics as soon as possible.
